About

Hi,

My name is Laura. I'm an English language teacher at a senior high school here in Japan, where I live with my family. I’ve spent over 8 years living in Japan, initally as an exchange student at university. More recently, I've had the wonderful experience of raising bilingual children in Japan, which has given me valuable insights into both the Japanese education system and the journey of parenting while balancing two languages and cultures.

The Lively Languages Eigo blog, offers a blend of resources, tips, and personal experiences, all aimed at helping foreign parents in Japan navigate the challenges of raising bilingual children and supporting English language development. My goal is to provide practical advice and support for families like yours, whether you're looking for tips on raising bilingual kids or teaching English in Japan.

ESL Classroom - Teaching English from a Teacher's Perspective
In addition to being a parent, I’m also an experienced English as an Additional Language teacher in Japan. In the ESL Classroom section, I share teaching materials, lesson plans, and advice for other educators working with English learners in Japan. This section focuses on ESL/EAL education, with an emphasis on speaking skills and exam preparation, such as the Eiken and GTEC speaking tests. If you’re a teacher in Japan looking for practical teaching resources or insights into working with Japanese students, this section will be especially helpful.

My Background
I hold a BA in International Business and Japanese, which has helped me navigate the cultural and linguistic landscape of Japan. I also have experience in teaching, with a background in the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).

I’m here to offer support, share resources, and create a welcoming space where you feel empowered to make the most of your bilingual journey. Whether you’re navigating raising bilingual children in Japan or teaching English in a Japanese classroom, this blog is for you!

Thank you for visiting Lively Languages Eigo. I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned along the way and supporting you as you raise confident, bilingual children.
