Chapter Books With Mermaids

My children have loved the Netflix show Mermaid Magic, to capitalise on this interest I sought out these chapter books featuring mermaids which appeal to the same aged fanbase as the Netflix show.

Chapter books featuring mermaids for readers aged 7-10

Mermaid Academy Julie Skyes and Linda Chapman 6-9

Isla and Bubble is the first book in this on going chapter book series (11 books so far) about mermaids being matched with a dolphin at the mermaid academy.

The Tail Of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler 8 - 10

Emily is a human, she has always been kept out of the water. When she is allowed to try swimming lessons (spoilers) her legs turn into a tail her life changes and she reconnects with her mer-dad.

Mummy Fairy and Me Mermaid Magic  Sophie Kinsella 6-8

This series is full of magic and mishaps as Mummy turns into a fairy. Each chapter of this book is a short adventure and there is one about turning into a mermaid to help a stranded baby whale. The 4th book in the series but it can be read as a stand alone.

Wellspring Of Magic by Jan Fields 7-10

Six craft loving friends are transported through a secret door to Wellspring a dying kingdom which they must use their talents to save. In this book Marisol the water loving friend turns into a mermaid with a pet river dragon. Lot's of magic and fantasy as the girls try to save the Kingdom.

There are only two books in the series, it feels like it was originally intended for there to be six, one for each friend. It was given away in 2007 as a free book in a postal promotion to encourage sign ups to a Annie's Attic a crafting subscription box, as such it has nostalgic appeal to readers from that period who discovered it in the same way as the girls in the story discover the magic tokens  in the book.

Emma And The Mermaid Club 6-10 by AM Luzzader

Emma joins the mermaid club, she is shy and nervous but soon finds her place helping the club. This 3 book series each features a different mermaid from the Mermaid Club.

Books for younger readers who like mermaids

The Mermaid by Jan Brett is beautifully illustrated book about Kiniro the mermaid. She has a Golidlocks style adventure sampling breakfast at the octopuses shell house.

Lola and The Bracelet Of Courage by Sarah

A story about being courageous beautiful illustrations for preschoolers.

Books for older readers who like mermaids

The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian-Anderson with illustration from Helen Crawford-White. The original story is quite a departure from the whimsy and magic we often associate with mermaids, for that reason I would rate this one 12+ (Amazon rating is 7-10)

The Secret of Haven Point Lisette Auton 9-12
